Importer Dinner: the wines of Ghislaine Barthod

GERTRUDE STREET ENOTECA

Meet the Importer No.1: Robert Walters of Bibendum Wine Co.
Tuesday June 6th @ 7.00pm
$185/pp

Rob Walters gained notoriety as the only person in wine to come out of the www boom on top. Having founded internet wine store Wine Planet, Rob manoeuvred himself out and is now putting his considerable skills to the use of good instead of evil by promoting many fabulous European wine artisans in Australia. His portfolio extends from Spain right through to Germany and encompasses many great estates as well as tiny producers, so it will be a chance to extract a few good stories about the highs and lows of being an importer as well as looking at some great wines from his portfolio.

Our first “Meet the Importer” dinner will highlight some of Rob’s Champagne from grower house Egly Ouriet, white Burgundy from Henri Germain and then a bracket of the rare & remarkable wines of Ghislaine Barthod from the commune of Chambolle Musigny (2002 Premier Cru’s Aux Beaux Bruns, Les Chatelots, Les Charmes, Les Cras & Les Fuees)will create a great forum for terroir & Pinot Noir.

Brigitte is fired up about some wonderful Burgundian dishes – she’s thinking roasted muscovy duck and Armagnac soaked prunes with braised savoy cabbage and celeriac puree to accompany Rob’s wines, so we recommend you book quickly! Only 12 places available…

Brunello Dinner

The 1990 Brunello Dinner
Tuesday May 9th is the date of our next wine dinner upstairs @ Brigitte's Table. This time it is to both release the 2001 Brunellos and to have our second look at an incredible collection of 1990 Brunellos and 1990 Brunello Riservas. We first did a version of this dinner at the Grossi Florentino about 7? years ago when Brigitte was working there for Guy Grossi. The wines were awesome then and should be even more interesting now...

The Menu is coming together along these lines:
Bellavista on Arrival
then
1. Bitter Green Torte with Silvio Jermanns Vintage Tunina & Leonildo Pieropan's (ex-Soave) La Rocca
2. Vincis Grassis Lasagne (2001 Brunellos: Costanti, Fuligni, Poggio Antico)
3. Braised Pigeon & Porcini with Gratinated Fennel (1990 Brunellos: Costanti, Fuligni, Poggio Antico, Mastrojanni)
4. Roasted Kurobuta Pork (1990 Brunello Riservas: Altesino Montosoli, Poggio Antico, Mastrojanni, Mastrojanni Schiena d'Asino)
5. Cheese tbc
6. Pannacotta with Moscato

For those interested in coming along email us on gertrudestreetenoteca@bigpond.com. The cost is $245/pp and the dinner will kick off at 7.00pm sharp on the 9th. Guest is Michael Trembath, Australian importer of most of the wines involved.

Cheers, James

Newsletter

Hi all,

thought perhaps the enoteca should get with the in form of communication and have a blog. Somewhere we can put tasting notes, event news, recipes in progress and general enoteca stuff like our upcoming jazz nights. Now Brigitte and I will have to figure out how to use this thing.... and link it to our site @ www.gertrudestreetenoteca.com . Looking forward to your feedback! Cheers, James
